World premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, Indian entry for the OSCARS, 8.4/10 in IMDB,4/5 by HINDUSTAN TIMES,4/5 by indiatoday, let's just put these things aside for a while and let me tell you a little irrelevant story,
2002
An eight-year-old boy was sitting in front of a TV, watching the 74th Academy Awards, it was an early morning, with his languid eyes his only concern was, can LAGAN make it through the final round? but soon his languid eyes turned in teary eyes. We all know what happened, LAGAN didn't get the Oscars and that was the last time when an Indian movie came close to win the legendary Academy Awards.
A wise director once said "if you have a really solid storyline and hardworking actors rest of the things doesn't matter " this movie provided us more than that. I thought I have seen the best of Rajkumar Rao in the movie sahid and I am very happy to admit that I was horrendously wrong, natun-Kumar/Newton is a pure bliss to watch, from blinking of his eyes to his twisted neck everything was just perfect. Sir Pankaj Tripathi I don't have the audacity to criticise your acting caliber, Aatma Singh

was more than bloody perfect. Anjali Patil made us believe that Malko is a real adibasi who has the courage to stand up against anything just like Newton. Raghubhir Yadav what can I say about this man!!Salaam Bombay!, Lagaan, Water and now Newton, this man never failed to do justice with his character. And sir Sanjay Mishra you are far far beyond for any kind of criticism. Just like the five fingers stated in the movie this five have made the fist. There are many unnamed characters in the film, but each of them did their job with immense dedication, every actor just gave their best.
Amit maruskar and Mayank tiwery, thank you for those wonderful dialogues throughout the film,
from my tiny personal experience, I know how much mental work is needed for this kinda script and as a spectator, I can only say thank you. The pen is really mightier than the sword.Naren Chandavarkar & Benedict Taylor did a fantastic job, for this movie the music coudnt been better.
' A government clerk who is sent out on election duty to a Naxal hit area in the jungles of Chhattisgarh with tight security.' This is the plot, as the show goes on we realize a fair election is nothing but a pathetic joke in “world’s largest democracy.” There is a saying in Bengali if you wanna receive an international acclamation for your film the easiest way is, show them "ন্যাংটা দেশের খ্যামটা নাচন " (how poor and miserable our country is ). and to some extinct its true Lion, Slumdog Millionaire, pother panchali the list is
a long one. But I am very grateful to director Amit maruskar , sir, you didn't take that shortcut you have shown us the India which we thought it didn't exist in 2000, the old truly neglected
ancient India and which is being killed by the civilized modern Indian system, take a bow sir it takes a lot of guts to make a movie like this, you just restored our faith in Hindi movies.
I don't possess enough wisdom to analysis the camera, focus, set, cinematography, editing
etc other technical things, and being honest I don't wish to do. The ending of the movie
is awesome (kinda reminded me of the movie "The Separation"). The budget of Newton is 14 crores and is the first Indian film to receive a grant of Rs 1 crore from the Central Government. Big thanks to Drishyam Films they have shown an extraordinary courage to produce this movie.
I am requesting every sensible, intellectual person to watch this movie because movies like this don't come very often in our country, and as far as the Oscars concerns that little boy is making his fingers crossed again, yes after 15 long years I think there is a genuine chance
for the Academy Awards.
Agree??
